So two things have happened in the past few days that have made me fuming mad. And I'm wondering if it's some pregnancy-induced hypersensitivity or what. What do you think:
A few days ago, I was in line at a donut shop. I am clearly pregnant, was holding Rachel and had Charlie by the hand. An older guy walked in and gets into line RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I couldn't believe it! What made me even madder was the woman working there had seen me standing in line and knew I was next but went ahead and took his order before mine anyway. So I was mad at the old guy for cutting in front of me, but don't you think the saleslady should've said something? Maybe like, "I'm sorry sir but that woman was here before you and I'll be right with you?" That's what I would've done. Maybe I should've said something but instead I just waited until he was done and went next. But I've been mad about it for days! What would you have done? I should've said something, huh?
Then, yesterday, my two older kids had dental appointments. So we showed up at the office a few minutes early (by some miracle!) only to be told that the office had lost all of their patient information in their computers due to the hurricane and the dentist wasn't there and would not be able to see them. I was furious! The receptionist even had the nerve to say, "you can give me that look, but this is not our fault." Okay, first of all, what look? Second of all, does she think it's my fault? Does she have any idea or care that Hannah has missed 3 hours of school at this point or that I had to drive 35 minutes with 3 kids just to get there? And then another 45 minutes to get Hannah to school and 20 more minutes home. Don't you think the professional thing to do in cases like this would be to let your patients know that the computers weren't working and to call the office if they had scheduled appointments? How hard would it have been in the 3+ weeks since the computers were damaged to send out a form letter to their clients and ask them to call the office to confirm or re-schedule their appointments? I keep wondering how many other people are showing up there every day only to be told that they're out of luck? Why isn't the dentist there anyway? If I had any choice, I would switch dentists, but she's the only one in like a 40 mile radius that takes our insurance AND will see patients under the age of 8. But I am mad about it.
So, do these kinds of things happen to you? And do you get mad too? Or am I just a freak?

people are rude, but it's even worse in chile. EVERYONE cuts in line--EVERYWHERE! it's ridiculous. people shove and push--it's a joke. i want to yell, "hey! we're not in elementary school--get in line!"
as for your dentist--i would have given that receptionist a piece of my mind! i would definitely tell the dentist when you go back--that is uncalled for. you never know, it might just the thing he needs to get rid of her.
Rude. Definitely rude. I'm sorry. I guess most people are just clueless.
Very RUDE, I would definitely have said something to that old man, that kind of stuff infuriates me. And I would write a letter to your dentist, it probably won't do any good but it would make me feel better I think.
So rude! I would feel the exact same way. I probably wouldn't have said anything to the guy either (I'm so wimpy about confrontations most of the time), but I totally agree, the lady the behind the counter should have said something.
And that receptionist is way out of line. I remember right after I had Matthew, I had to take him for a check up of the circ. and arrived at the office to find out the urologist wasn't there. The receptionist told me they had called everyone with appts to let them know. I told her I hadn't received the call. She looked at me like she didn't believe me. Finally, after about 5 minutes, she realized I did have an appt and my number/name was not on the list of people they called. Their mistake, not mine. :) She was a bit nicer after that, but I didn't go back.
I hope you don't have any rude run-ins for awhile. You deserve a break! :)
about the donuts, i absolutely would've said something, and do it all the time. i've done it before and people are like "um, i'm just looking" and then i feel dumb, but only for a minute. i totally would've said something.
as for the dentist, he should've been there. just because they lost info and couldn't call or contact you doesn't mean the dentist can't be there to fulfill his appointments. plus, that's totally stupid. i've never been to a doctors office that didn't have SOME sort of paper record, so that even if they lost the electronic one, they always have a backup. at the very least a copy of your insurance card. lame.
I caught onto you blog off of my friends Arlynda's. I loved you entry so much and have a pregnancy irritation story to tell.
I live in a small town, one where specialists are only in town once a week and do certain procedures once a month. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work.
When I was 8 mos pregnant with #3, my daughter was hospitalized with respiratory distress. It was found that one of the factors was her golf ball sized adenoids in her two year old face. So, in the hospital we met with the ENT (from out of town) and were scheduled with an office visit.
At the office visit we did the paperwork stuff and the ENT confirmed she needed surgery. The office assistant comes in and says "The doctor only does surgery once a month and her next date is Sept. 20th."
Well, my due date was Sept. 25th. I figured that the surgery better happen sooner than later as we were given our daughter breathing treatments, etc., so I just cowboyed up and accepted it, got the needed paperwork and left.
One month later, I took my daughter for her pre-op appt, got her prescription for antibiotics that the ENT wanted her on, and went to register her at the hospital. I was told there that she wasn't scheduled for Sept. 20th, she was scheduled for Oct. 11th.
BOY WAS I MAD! Full wrath of a nine month pregnant, stressed out for a month due to interrupted sleep and the thought that my daughter and I might be in the hospital at the SAME TIME! I waved my paperwork in front of her face (which clearly said Sept. 20th) and she got the office of the ENT on the phone.
Not only did their records show that she was scheduled for Oct 11th, they NEVER showed that she was scheduled for Sept. 20th. They had never called me about a change b/c in their mind there never was a change. They could only say "sorry for the inconvenience and have a nice day."
ARRRGH! It's been two years and it still makes me mad! The way things turned out, I had my baby late and she had her surgery a week after he was born and everything is now fine. BUT if anyone asks me about that ENT, I will let you know that she herself is a competent doctor, but BEWARE of the office staff.
