So I'm sitting here in my freezing cold office (still no carpet in here and all our heat seems to be escaping through the huge hole in the ceiling. Luckily, this is as "wintry" as my neck of the woods gets). And I can't stop thinking about the Twilight movie. I saw it the day it opened. I was in AZ with 3 of my best friends - roommates from college - and we just had to go. So, we did and I have to say that I was kind of disappointed.
But now I keep wondering why? Everyone else I've talked to loved it. And I'm beginning to wonder what I missed? They all seemed willing to overlook the low-budget look of the movie and especially the lame special effects. They all liked Edward and Bella. They loved how closely the movie followed the book - which I admittedly liked too. Maybe my expectations were too high. I wanted the Cullens to be fantastically and unbelievably beautiful like I had imagined. I wanted Edward to be the perfect predator, but he seemed almost as human as Bella most of the time.
I will admit to liking the baseball scene probably because it was just like I had imagined it when I read the book. And I also liked the part where Edward and Bella first kiss in her bedroom - probably for the same reason. But overall, I left feeling let down and thinking that the story was so good and the movie could've been amazing but it wasn't.

Arlynda did a post about how she felt that it needs to be a TV series so they can develop the characters more - and I totally agree with her. It's hard to depict the type of love that Edward and Bella have, and hard to get each vampires back story the credit and time they need in such a short movie time frame. So yeah, the movie left me feeling like it lacked depth, and the acting was a little over the top in some places making it comical instead of believable. I went into it with low expectations, and was entertained at least (some of the special effects really were lacking). I enjoyed the fight scene, right up to when Edward bit Bella and that was just awkward... Over all I'd give it a B- for such a low budget film. I really hope they decide to spend a little more money on the next one! (I'll probably still rent it and watch it again though - I'm really not that picky when it comes to entertainment)
The first kiss scene was especially moving for me. It reminded me of our first kiss--do you remember where we were? If anyone else besides Sara can answer that question correctly I will buy them an ice cream cone.
I had really, really low expectations for the movie, so I was surprised when it was better than I expected. That said, I didn't LOVE it. It was okay - but still, compared to other chick-filck-thriller movies, pretty mediocre. The acting left a lot to be desired - choppy dialogue - and like Cherise mentioned people were laughing at scenes that weren't supposed to be funny.
I went mostly for the Girls Night Out :)
Yeah, well most people liked Lord of the Rings, it was excrutiating for me to sit through that.
I spent most of the Twilight imagining that I was watching an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000, where two robots and one guy are tortured by being forced to watch bad old sci fi movies, they get through it by making fun of them. I was imagining what they would say about Twilight. I started swooning every time Mike Newton came on the screen. Just for laughs. I think I got the best ab workout I've had in about a year.
I really didn't expect much, but I expected more than I got. Cherise mentioned my post, go read it you'll get the idea. It was in November and was title "In My Opinion"

I liked the movie. Not my favorite, but mom bought the movie-guide book at the airport in Houston and that made it better for me. mostly because the shoot was SO awful (the weather was terrible, it rained when it was supposed to be dry, dry when it was supposed to be wet, etc.) and even the director wasn't happy with the final footage, but there was nothing she could do.
I liked the scene of them at school together when he's wearing the sunglasses and everyone is staring. But I really missed the biology blood-typing scene and was annoyed at her prom dress (seriously? leggings and converse?) but stephenie meyer is an executive producer on the next 2 so i expect they'll be better.
It was alright. I didn't have super high expectations either. I didn't get to see it until Sat, so I had seen the reviews.
The cheesiness, some of the music, and just the overall tone of the movie really made me feel old. :) (I know the books are marketed to YA, but so many of us beyond that have read them and the people that made the film must have known that.)
I really didn't like how red Edward's lips were. C'mon! He's got no blood flowing! Why are his lips constantly flushed!
I don't want to buy it. Maybe I'll watch it again in ten years for kicks, but I'm not in a hurry to see it again.
It was fun to go with some friends to see it though. Afton and I were making faces at each other throughout the movie (like when Alice twisted the head off) and there was a guy behind us who was laughing really loud at stuff, so that made it fun too.
I did LOVE seeing the scenery outside. It made me miss home. :)

haven't seen it yet! the week it came out mitch was out of town so all the girls went at midnight, but i couldn't go because who would babysit at midnight??? so, i have to go by myself, mitch will NOT go with me, or maybe while my mom is here over christmas break we may go!
I am so behind the times...I just finished the first book today coincidentally. I need to go get the second tomorrow! I haven't seen the movie yet but most people I know that have read the book and seen the movie were disappointed like you.
OK-I have to take a stab at CJ's first kiss question because I think I might know. It was at good ol' Presidio in his condo. Am I close even?
Our first kiss was in James' bedroom upstairs! We were standing up near the door and Sara put the moves on me. I was a little scared at first, but oh boy, did I see fireworks! (can anyone name the 70's TV show that had an episode where a young male character saw fireworks after a kiss?)
Oh well. It was a good guess. :)
